Where Should You Celebrate New Year? Discover Ideas from Around the World

As the year draws to a close, many of us start to consider how we’re going to make sure it goes out with a bang. And one of the best ways to do this is to travel to a new location to witness New Year’s Eve in a different country, culture or time zone.

With that in mind, here are our top places to bring the New Year in:

1. Sydney, Australia

Complete with the backdrop of the Sydney Opera House and Harbor Bridge, this is the perfect setting to watch the biggest firework display Australia has to offer. And the best bit? You’ll be at one of the first places in the world that welcomes in the New Year. The only downside is the length of the flight, there is plenty of entertainment to be found on board these days – and airlines are continually finding new ways to keep their passengers happy.

There are a number of options available when you head to this location, too. You can relax and unwind in a waterfront restaurant, head out on a boat in Sydney Harbor so you can watch the fireworks display overhead or take a seat in a nearby park where you’ll have front-row seats for the night’s events. Don’t forget to watch out for a lighted boat parade, mini-light displays, aerial flyovers and native smoking displays as well.

2. London, England

OK, so you might not have to travel far to get to the Big Smoke, but getting to the front of the queue along the River Thames is more than worth it. Boasting one of the most spectacular firework displays in the world, if you haven’t been to London on New Year’s Eve before, now’s your chance.

Over a quarter of a million people line the river here on New Year’s Eve – and not just to witness the breathtaking fireworks. With three hours of entertainment on offer, as well as plenty of clubs and pubs to start or finish off the night in, it’s ideal for enjoying a night to remember in one of the most iconic locations on Earth.

3. Las Vegas, U.S.

As a city that never sleeps, you don’t need New Year for an excuse to party all night long in Las Vegas. However, New Year does bring some welcome additions to the celebrations. These include fireworks (of course!), helicopter rides, stunning dining options, plenty of clubs and pubs and world-famous casinos.

With the Bellagio reportedly popping around 900 bottles of champagne at midnight, Las Vegas casinos won’t skimp when it comes to helping you celebrate the New Year in style. And as the strip is closed off to traffic after 6 PM, the entire street becomes a four-mile party zone with many of the special shows, activities and celebrations spilling out onto the street to create a vibrant, welcoming and entertaining atmosphere.

So, what are you waiting for? Whether you want to take part in age-old traditions in England’s capital city or you’d rather rub shoulders with the stars in Las Vegas, there’s something for everyone this New Year. All you need to do is rehearse the words to ‘Auld Lang Syne’…
