We live on Mount Adheres, in the hilltop refuge of Lykoparti, which means gathering of wolves. Until 1944, this area was inhabited by packs of wolves, as its name describes. It is a magnificent mountain, with low vegetation and a breathtaking panoramic view of Poros island just across and Saronic Gulf and its coasts.
As we experienced the beauty of our exquisite land and seascapes whilst trekking around with our horses, we developed the idea of “Horse Trekking in the Land of the Wolf”.
For that activity we have chosen Haflinger horses. Gorgeous, strong animals, friendly and adorable, ideal for trekking because of their stamina, beauty and their mild nature, trained with natural horsemanship method.
Our itineraries vary according to the riders’ desire and skills.
Going eastward, for an one to two hours itinerary, we reach an approximately 400 meters altitude enjoying during the ride the view of Poros island, the island of Aegina bit farther, the coast of Attica till Sounion Cape and far, towards the eastern horizon the shapes of Kythnos and Kea (Cyclades islands).
Choosing the western route, we enter the wild beauty of the mountain and the landscape changes. The sound of water flowing in the gorges, the small goats herds grazing on the slopes and a clump of trees around a small waterfall are just few examples of the amazing scenery.
As summer temperatures in the area tend to be high, we organize late afternoon or nocturne horse trekking under the moonlight when the coolness of the mountain is most enjoyable, both for the riders and the horses.
Trekking during the day and evening as well as excursions for photography lovers and painters’ groups can be arranged.
Come and try our horse trekking activity.
